GTSW - What's it mean for you to become a head coach, after being an assistant?
G.K. - "Well, I think it was really important for me to be an assistant, or have that time as an assistant coach and I learned a lot working with (then head coach) John Kowalski and Paul Child and I definitely feel it's prepared me for this next step. That experience was crucial for getting ready for the next step. And it means a lot, it's a great privilege to be at the head, because I have a lot of great memories of the organization and a lot of pride of this team that we really want to make a success. We feel that the success of this team is crucial to the development of the game, so Paul Child and I want to do whatever we can to make it a success."
GTSW - The USLD2 has seen a slight change since last season. Your thoughts?
G.K. - "I think the USLD2 is going to be--is very competitive and I think that a lot of the teams are, talent-wise organizationally, are very, very similar to where it was when we had thirty teams back in 1999 and 2000. I mean there's a number of teams that can compete, so I think the talent level's going to be very high. I think the spectators will be very pleased with the caliber of play."
GTSW - This is, I believe, the 7th season for the hounds.
G.K. - "Right."
GTSW - This is the first day of tryouts. You're thoughts on what you've seen so far?
G.K. - "I think good. I think there's definitely some players here that I think we want to take a good look at, and I know we have some talented players coming back, and we have some talented players who have been calling, that are looking for teams, so I think it's going to be very, very competitive. I mean, I think that will only raise the caliber of play."
GTSW - You replaced Ricky, who did a great job in his first season. How do you feel about taking his place?
G.K. - "I have a lot of respect for Ricky and the job that he did and you know he was a terrific player to coach, he's a true professional and I have a lot of respect for everything that he did and the contribution that he made to the organization."
GTSW - I want to thank head coach Gene Klein for his time.
