Sheldon Thomas and Steve Patterson each scored a goal and added an assist, as the Orange County Waves cruised
to a 4-1 win over the Connecticut Wolves late Sunday night in Santa Ana, California
In a first half which started out evenly played, Nick Theslof headed home a Thomas pass in the 20th minute. Six minutes later, Thomas made it 2-0 off a feed from Shawn Saunders.
Wolves head coach Dan Gaspar made four substitutions to start the second half, bringing in Sean Duzant, Brendan Sullivan, Wikid Wilson and Dan Rudolph to shake some things up. Connecticut cut the deficit in half in the 78th minute, when Sean Nealis slammed home a loose ball from 9 yards out after a Corner Kick try. But whatever momentum the Wolves built came to a screaching halt when Steve Patterson scored in the 83rd minute and assisted on Colby Jackson's goal in stoppage time.
With the win, Orange County improves to 5-4, while Connecticut falls to 0-5-1. These two teams will meet again later this season, on Saturday, September 2 in New Britain, CT. This concludes the Wolves' 6-game season-opening road trip, as they head back to Connecticut for their home opener, Friday, May 19th, 7:30pm against the defending US Open Cup Champion Rochester Raging Rhinos.
