Rough Riders Curb Bulldogs
Long Island Winning Streak at Four
In front of a rowdy crowd of young campers on camp day, the Rough Riders extended their winning streak to four games.
Iratso Knight scored for the fourth straight game, while Cordt Weinstein scored for the second game in a row, as Long Island triumphed over Boston 3-0. Gerry Lucey continued his strong play of late, converting a penalty kick just six minutes into the game. The penalty was called on Avery Johnson, for handling the ball inside the box. The goal was Lucey's fifth of the season. With that goal, he tied Weinstein and Irasto Knight for the team lead in goals.
That tie, however, would only last 32 minutes. Weinstein broke in on Russell Payne and scored his sixth of the season off an assist from Knight. Not to be outdone, Knight scored his sixth as well. Fernando Fernandez threaded the needle with a pass to Knight, who sealed the win in the 58th minute. Once again, the defense was solid as they picked up their four shutout in five games. Paul Grafer made six saves and has let in just one goal in his last 270 minutes of play. The shutout was his fifth of the year, and second one in a row.
The Riders also have continued to play strong and win, with their starters on the bench with injuries. The consistent play of Ronan Wiseman, Andrew Mittendorf, Stephen Franzke, and Carlyle Myrie proves that the Riders are solid. They have players that are interchangeable which will be a great help in post-season play for head coach Paul Riley, and trouble for the opponents.
Rider Notes: The Rough Riders finished their tenure at EAB Park undefeated in league play at 5-0.
