The Hawks looked to play a good game today at Galbreath Field in Cincinnati. It was not to be however as lady luck did not shine her fortunes the Hawks way. The game was supposed to start last evening but due to severe storms that moved through the area the game had to be postponed until today.
The Hawks came out playing tentatively, seeming to just keep the Eagles from scoring. The game started with the Eagles keeping the ball and stringing pass after pass together. In the 17th minute a goal went in from Norkus who received the ball and dribbled about a 3rd of the pitch and launching a shot just as he entered the penalty area. Great work by Norkus on beating the Cincinnati defense.
With the Hawks still with that goal on their mind Swinehart put a goal in one minute later. This put the Hawks down 2-0 and not all was looking good. The Hawks seemed to get more into the game at this point. In the 27th minute Marcel Matis just outside the 18 and driving into the penalty area had the ball stripped from him tripping him to the ground. With the referee so close to the play he saw no foul that everyone else in the stands saw so play continued on. Matis, upset at the no-call ended up getting booked in the 29th minute.
This seemed to wake the Hawks up a bit as in the 35th minute RJ Kaszuba took a pass from Giacabbone and stuffed it into the back of the net! GREAT GOAL!! The Hawks were back in this one and playing well. The 1st half ended with the Eagles up 2-1 but the Hawks were looking ready for a comeback.
The 2nd half started with both sides playing an even game. The ball moved up and down the pitch. The Eagles started bringing in subs at about the 54th minute mark in what I feel was to make the difference.
In the 83rd minute subsitute Gajardo was deemed to be fouled in the penalty area. He sent the penalty straight up the middle and scored making it 3-1 and thus collapsing what drive that the Hawks had. In the 88th minute the Eagles added another goal by Pinch with the assist going to Johnson. This made the score 4-1 and ended the Hawks day.
