Riverhawks Lose To Pittsburgh At Home

Cincinnati's bad luck continues as they lose 3-1 to the Hounds at Galbreath Field. The Hawks again came out in this game playing very well. The game was being played tightly by both teams with no team really making a threat at goal until the 24th minute. It struck again however for the Hawks. In the box Matis I felt was fouled only for the call not to be made. On the return up the field by the Hounds Tripoli scored with an assist from Gutierrez making it 1-0, Pittsburgh. Cincinnati being down a goal did not give up. John Pickup sent a long ball in directly to Simon Lowey who then placed the ball into the net in the 32nd minute making it 1-1. The Hawks were still alive and looking good.

In the 2nd half, an admitted mistake by the linesman and center referee led to the next Hounds goal. The linesman put his flag up for offside but the pass that was to go to the player in the offside position did not go through. However, the center ref blew the whistle stopping play. A restart was taken by the Hawks only for another whistle to sound off. The ref wanted a restart to be taken by the Hounds because of the mistaken call. The Hounds did have possession at the time of the mistake. With a few of the Hawks defenders looking for an explanation of the 2nd whistle the referee gave a drop ball to the Hounds. Flavius quickly threaded a pass between the Hawks defenders setting up Welton perfectly for a goal in the 58th minute. Nice work by the referees here!! The Hawks now feeling a bit drained after the bad call kept trying their best to equalize. Not to be however as Welton scored in the 66th minute giving the Hounds a 3-1 advantage.

Cincinnati lost their composure a bit after the 3rd goal. The tried to get back into the game but it was not to be. It has to be tough to play as hard as you can only to have bad calls do you in. This time the referee admitted a mistake and I feel did not do a proper restart which led to the go ahead goal by Pittsburgh. I do have to hand it to the Riverhawks. They are a tough team and when things aren't going well, a referee's decision can really have an affect to the game. It's hard to ignore the bad calls.

There is one more game to go this season and I am sure the Hawks will go out and do the best they can. The will be up against the 1st place team and the Hawks will have a chance to show what they have against them. Let's hope we can have a game where the referees appear to be non-existent as it is supposed to be.

Long Live the Beautiful Game!!
GO HAWKS!!!
