While the A-League Calgary Storm was packing up their gear after a loss at Foothills Park, the Calgary Storm Prospects were taking the field at Glenmore Park for their home opener. The Prospects continue Calgary’s presence in the Premier Development League, but their mandate has changed. Most of last year’s squad, who made it to the league final in Des Moines, have moved up to the new A-League squad. The Prospects are now a reserve squad filled with promising youngsters. They began their season last weekend on the road where they defeated Yakima but lost to Cascade.
The sparse gathering saw the only goal of the game in the opening moments when Brett Bachelu tallied for the Prospects. There were other scoring opportunities, but nobody else converted the chances. Prospects forwards Brett Bachelu and Phil Amahazion showed they are developing a good partnership in the front. C.J. Peszneker also stood out for the Calgary. Spokane’s most dangerous offensive player was forward Jake Moug, who had a couple of quality chances. Calgary goalkeeper John Hawreliak looked solid in goal to secure the shutout.
