Game Summary:
The Eagles completely dominated play in the first half, out-shooting the Rampage and controlling the ball most of the time. At the start of the second half, the Rampage came out and played most of the half extremely physically, committing many unnecessary fouls after plays were over or after the whistle had been blown. They did, however, control play more than they had during the first half. By overtime, both teams were tired and it showed through increasingly sloppier play by both sides. Overall, both teams played well and a tie was a fair outcome. One Eagles player stated after the game, "It's hard to believe we can play that hard and only get one point for this game, because we, and Milwaukee, gave it everything we had tonight."
Although both teams played well, Milwaukee played with less sportsmanship than Charlotte. The Rampage coach was constantly berating the officials and I'm not sure why - he got the benefit of most of the 50/50 calls as well as many uncalled fouls and at least two tackles of YT in the box. The only significant call that was questionable that went against the Rampage was an offsides call that nullified a goal. The play was in front of the Rampage goal for too long as the Eagles defense just couldn't clear the ball. Then a number of passes/shots were taken and it all happened so quickly, I have no idea if the Rampage player was offsides or not. I had a better angle on the play than the Milwaukee bench and I couldn't tell, so I'm certain they couldn't. The side official was right on the spot and I have to believe he saw the play better than all of us (an admission I am not always willing to make). That play set the Rampage coach on fire and he didn't cool off the rest of the night. If fact, as soon as the game ended he ran to each official and pointed at each one while making abusive comments. The league really needs to look into this kind of behavior.
While the coach was yelling at the officials, the Rampage players constantly yelled at each other during the match, and at the end of the first half, one Milwaukee player walked to the bench and released a string of profanities that could be heard clearly in the stands. There is no reason for that kind of behavior, nor is there any reason for the cheap shots the Rampage took on the Eagles' players as they became frustrated throughout the match. It is always nice to watch the Eagles play because they exhibit so much self-control and sportsmanship towards opponents in each and every game. The same player who cut loose with the profanities at halftime and generally demonstrated poor sportsmanship then joined in the Eagles prayer huddle at the end of the game. Some things defy explanation.
