Blast-Whitecaps

Two storms from the northwest slammed through Indianapolis Tuesday night.

Just as lightning and rain were approaching Kuntz Stadium, the Vancouver Whitecaps had finished pelting the Indiana Blast with goals.

The Whitecaps became unshackled just beofre halftime and then let loose with three second-half scores, as they whipped the hosts 4-1.

Jason Jordan scored two easy goals in succession for Vancouver (3-3-1, 14 points), the first breaking a 1-all tie. Alfredo Valente added a pair of assists.

The Blast early on appeared to sustain the momentum they gained Saturday after winning at Cincinnati, keeping the ball at the Whitecaps' end of the field for most of the first 40 minutes.

After several near-misses, Jeremy Sweet came through for Indiana (3-6-0, 12 points) in the 38th minute. Paul Dolinsky took a free kick, which hit Sweet in the chest, and Sweet dribbled out of traffic to beat Vancouver keeper Alex Marques.

Two minutes later, at the other end of the pitch, the Whitecaps' Oliver Heald was taken down in the penalty area and awarded a penalty kick, which he converted.

The second half was all Vancouver, with the eventual game-winner coming off Jordan's foot in the 60th minute. Kindel fed a wide-open Jordan, who got it past helpless Blast keeper Josh Lynk.

Jordan scored again, this time in the 71st minute, again unmolested from close in.

Kindel netted the final goal in the 86th minute, with the Whitecaps up a man after Dolinsky was sent off five minutes earlier for kicking Kindel.

Indiana managed just one shot in the second half and was outshot for the match 10-5.

"The legs were not there and the heads were not there either," Blast player-coach Eric Descombes said. "We just ran out of gas real early. We were completely off."

The Blast visit El Paso Saturday.
