'Hounds move on to next round

Bethel Park, Pa.(5-26) On this day of remembrance of those who have served our country, the 'hounds made it a day for the turnout of 1,571 at Bethel Park H.S. Stadium to remember in their 2-0 win over Richmond by advancing to the next round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tournament.

After having early unsuccessfull chances, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds took the lead in the 29th minute when Corey Woolfolk intercepted a pass in the Kickers end and raced to the box where he beat goalkeeper Ronnie Pascale with a shot that found the right corner of the cage.

"We did our job a couple of weeks ago, in Richmond," said Woolfolk. "To complete the job was great. Now we get to play another couple of games."

Richmond finally found the cage 5 minutes later when Ihor Dotsenko beat Riverhounds cageminder Randy Dedini, but it was negated for offside to preserve the hounds 1-0 halftime lead.

In the last half, the league's leading scorer, 'Thiba' Martins, beat Pascal, after receiving a pass from Justin Evans, his first assist of the year. The former Minnesota Thunder found the netting inside the right post for a 2-0 lead.

Dedini made a key save in the 88th on a penalty kick, to preserve the shutout. The hounds host Rochester on Saturday(7:35), while their next U.S. Open Cup game will be on July 16th.
