Rhinos Cruise To Easy Win Versus Lynx

Carrieri’s Contributions Paying Huge Dividends for Rochester

ROCHESTER, NY, June 4, 2004 – The Rhinos, coming off an impressive 2-game road trip at Puerto Rico that netted 2 wins and sole possession of first place in the Eastern Conference, seemed poised to further their conference lead Friday night versus a sub-par squad from Toronto.

As the game began, Rochester’s quick strike offense, a trademark of the team this season, moved the ball into Toronto’s half of the pitch and began pummeling Lynx ‘keeper Bryheem Hancock. However, nothing was going in for the Rhinos. Doug Miller’s crosshairs seemed a bit off and he and Kirk Wilson were providing clinics on holding the ball too long and not passing. Most Chris Carrieri’s passes were being wasted o poor attempts and half-hearted shots.

Carrieri himself changed what was appearing to be a drab affair with a bicycle kick goal in the 28’. The ball was a rebound off of Hancock, so Carrieri’s goal was unassisted.

As the first half came to a close, Rochester had enjoyed a majority of the match’s possession, while holding Toronto to no shots on goal. Rochester, however, did squander many opportunities that would’ve put the game out of reach early.

Of note, Rhinos midfielder Ian Fuller was injured in the 12’, a fracture of his right ankle, which will bench him up to 6 weeks.

Miller nearly redeemed himself of his poor first of shooting in the second half, but a powerful header in the 59’ minute just missed the mark. Two minutes later, Miller’s substitute, Corey Woolfolk scored to ice the match. Carrieri’s cross found Woolfolk to the back of Hancock, and his header blasted past the Lynx ‘keeper to seal the win and keep the Rhinos atop the Eastern Conference. Woolfolk had been on the pitch only one minute.

Toronto had their best scoring chance in the 77’, but Rhinos ‘keeper Theo Zagar lucked out when Baxter’s shot kissed the crossbar, bounced on the goal line and out into play.

Long ball soccer sucks! Why is it that the only player midfielders are allowed to look for is Miller? Hello! Carrieri’s leads the team in points!
