Well, its one last time for me to stand on my soapbox and tell you what I
want you to know about last nights season ending victory. First of all, I
have no idea why Matt Gibson didn't start, when, in my opinion, he is the
much better goal keeper. That however is irrelevant because the Kings came
out ready to play this evening.
Bret Jones started off the scoring with a
fantastic strike from 24 out on an assist from Jack Cummings. Moussa
Dagnogo scored a goal, on a brilliant ball from Jon Pickup I might add, but
he should have had at least 3 in the first half alone. Missing a easy
breakaway and also striking the post on a shot. The second half was more
Kings attacking, it began early with a great ball from Dagnogo to Cummings,
and a great layoff from Cummings to winger John Liersemann for the easy open
netter. Josh Barton would close out the Kings scoring in the 53rd minute.
The Kings would come very very close several more times in the half. Kevin
McCloskey barely missed a gorgeous free kick from 35 yds. out, it was just
touched away by Royals keeper Brian Chidester.
The Royals did however put
one on the board when, Kings keeper Brian Schaeper made a mental error and
did not play the ball out soon enough, or even out of bounds, and it
ricocheted off a Royals player and fell for the easy tap in. It was a goal
that really leaves a sour taste in the mouth for most Kings fans because our
defense is our strength and I think they deserved to go out on a clean
sheet.
The attendance was amazing, just over 1,700. It was the highest
attendance we have had to date. It really showed that hopefully, the Kings
are here to stay, some people have already bought next year's season
tickets. I think we did quite well for our first season, unlucky not to
make the playoffs. However, it was an injury filled season in several vital
positions so maybe next year we can stay healthy enough to make a run deep
into the playoffs. Good luck to all the players in whatever they do in the
off season and hopefully we can have them all back next year.
