It was a very nice evening for a game, sunny and in the 80's, with some clouds around. But that did not stop the hounds from attracting the largest crowd of the season, at 2,607 at Falconi Field. Unfortunately, the hounds two game winning streak came to an end at the hands of Charlotte on Saturday.
Both teams had chances in the opening half, which ended scoreless, despite the Eagles having two chances at open nets with hounds goalkeeper Terry McNelis out.
The first came when Dustin Swinehart missed wide from about 10 yards. The other came when an unidentified Eagles player missed from inside the far side of the box.
While the hounds did give a great effort, those who stood out for me were Vincente Bastidas, who had two quality shots on Charlotte cageminder Chris McClelland, but was denied on great saves and Evaud Thompson, who gave it his all, but could not score.
The second half saw more of the same as the hounds and Eagles continued their scoreless battle, until Ishmael Mintah finally put Charlotte up in the 68th minute off a cross from Jacob Coggins, who scored in the 85th from Chris Lemons.
The win gives Charlotte a record of 6-1, while the hounds fall to 2-4. The hounds will next see action on Saturday when they travel to Woodland Virginia to take on Northern Virginia, hoping to start a new streak.
