Bayamón, PR - The Puerto Rico Islanders finished their second season in the USL-1 league (former A-League) with a convincing 4-1 win over the Toronto Lnyx at Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium.

Although they knew Portland's Saturday win over the Richomnd Kickers had eliminated them from play-off contention, the Islanders played at their fullest and delighted their loyal fans with a great soccer game.

All the scoring would come in the second half; although Corey Woolfolk and Mauiricio Salles for the locals, and Huffman El-Tabe for the Lynx came close in the first forty-five.

In the second period, the Islanders took the lead on a penalty kick after Sita-Taty Matondo took down Noah Delgado inside the box. Salles would score the PK for the 1-0 lead.

Toronto almost tied in the 57th minute when El-Tabe hit the posts on a hard driving shot. After that the Lynx seemed to vanish, as the Islanders added to their lead with goals by Woolfolk, Petter Villegas, and Drew McAthy. Matondo avoided the shutout with a goal in stoppage time.

With such a convincing display, the Islanders waved goodbye to the 2005 season one point short of the playoffs. Nevertheless their attractive competitive soccer has Puerto Ricans looking forward to a great 2006 season, and the league teams taking notice.
