BAYAMON, PR - The Puerto Rico Islanders continue to do very well in the USL 1st Division, as they beat the Toronto Lynx by a 2-1 result in a Sunday match-up at Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium in Bayamón. The win elevated the Islanders into a temporary three-way tie for first place with the Rochester Raging Rhinos and the Portland Timbers, each with 20 points.

Puerto Rico Islanders took the lead after just 13 minutes. Gustavo Barros Schelotto retrieved a Lynx clearance and passed the ball into the box to Petter Villegas. Villegas would beat Lynx goalie Richard Goddard with a low, hard shot for the home team's first goal of the night. Toronto Lynx tied the match thanks to Matthew Palleschi who, in the 38th minute, took advantage of a defensive error by the Islanders and easily put the ball past Dan Kennedy who had to come off his line. In the second half the Lynx looked to maintain the tied score, while the Islanders became more intense knowing the Toronto squad came ready to play at top form.

The game eventually was decided on the 75th minute. Villegas got off a corner kick to Alejandro González who was outside the box. González lofted the ball into the box where Mauricio Segovia headed it back to an open Arturo Norambuena. Norambuena easily smashed the ball in the back of the net with Goddard already beaten. It was a game winning goal for a club, the Puerto Rico Islanders, now steadily marching along in their quest for their first play-offs.
