Mariners’ and Islanders Play to 2-2 Tie

VIRGINIA BEACH,
VIRGINIA- In an exciting fast
paced game at the Sportsplex, the Virginia Beach
Mariners and Puerto Rico Islanders played to a 2-2 tie. Virginia
Beach’s Leepaul Scroggins
opened the scoring in the eighth minute of play on a powerful strike. However the Islanders came roaring back four
minutes later on a goal by Dario Husein. The Mariners took a 2-1 lead into halftime
when Alan Woods headed in a goal in the 24th minute. The second half picked up where the first
half left off. Both clubs had near
misses and shots ring off the post. Virginia Beach gave up a
soft goal in the 53rd minute to Puerto Rico’s
Alen Marcina. With both teams having good runs, the game was
close up until the final minutes. Virginia Beach’s defense
drew the Islanders offside ten times.
The Mariners poured on the shots throughout the game, outshooting the Islanders 16 to 6.
