Two past Charleston regulars and standout veteran John Ball are the latest to sign on to play for the Battery this season.
John Wilson, Charleston's 1999 defender of the year, has re-signed here after spending last season with the reigning MLS champion Kansas City Wizards.
Wilson is joined by his former Clemson teammate Alan Woods, 22, who returns after spending part of this preseason with MLS' Colorado Rapids.
Ball, who played last season with the A-League champion Rochester, recently was named MVP of the indoor NPSL All-Star Game for Cleveland.
Woods, 6-2 and 180, opted to return here after the Rapids, the team that drafted him in 2000, did not re-sign him. Also a standout at Notre Dame before transferring to Clemson, the Burtonsville, Md., native made 26 Battery starts at defender.
• The Battery has begun preseason training and plays MLS' New England Revolution in an exhibition at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Blackbaud Stadium. For tickets, call 971-GOAL. On Saturday, the stadium ticket window opens at noon.
