Hit Me Baby Juan More Time - Colombian striker inspires Lynx to win

Venue: Varsity Stadium, Toronto Ontario
Attendance: 2,591
Kick off Time: 7:00 PM

Match summary: The Toronto Lynx are moving on up. In a sauna like Varsity Stadium the Toronto Lynx put on a superb performance thrashing the Portland timbers three-nil. Much had been made about the Timbers high scoring offense prior to the match but it was the potent offense of the Lynx that had the fans talking after an inspired Toronto performance. Strikers Juan Arango and Waldo Sponton had brilliant matches up front, running the Portland defense ragged all evening. The Lynx scored early and often in the first-half stunning the highly touted Portland Timbers in front of 2 591 sweaty fans. Juan Arango let Portland know his intentions early forcing Portland ‘keeper Matt Napoleon into action in the first minute. Arango put the Lynx ahead after Dave Di Placido made a brilliant run through the Portland defense and slid the ball into the path of the Colombian striker. Argentinean ace Waldo Sponton put the Lynx up by two sliding a perfectly placed ball beyond Napoleon. Arango then finished off the scoring blasting a rocket beyond the stunned Napoleon. A great night for Peter Pinizzotto’s club who now take their high flying offense into Montreal Sunday for a match with the rival Impact.
