Richmond, VA - (Sunday, September 30, 2001) - Tonight the A-League Regular Season Champion Richmond Kickers were ousted in the quarterfinal round of the playoffs by a 2-1 overtime score at the hand of the Milwaukee Rampage. In the final moments of regulation defender Pete Luzak was taken down in the box by a Milwaukee defender, and forward Josh Henderson buried the penalty kick to even the score and the series at 3. However, three minutes into overtime an unmarked Milwaukee player, Alen Soso, was found at the back post and his shot was nicely tucked into the lower right corner from 14 yards out. With the win, Milwaukee advances to the A-League semi-finals to face the #4 Rochester Raging Rhinos in a two game aggregate series this week.

Highlights:

19th Minute: Midfielder Tony Williams picks up a Milwaukee clearance on the left side of the field, gathers the ball and turns to fire a curling shot towards the goal. Goalkeeper Dan Popik is caught out of position but gets back in time to tip the ball over the crossbar for a corner.

29th Minute: Kickers counter attack and Kevin Jeffrey plays a ball over the Rampage defense for Josh Henderson. Henderson takes a few touches, cuts the ball back, and fires a low hard shot that glances off the outside of the post from 12 yards out.

35th Minute (GOAL): Corner Kick for Milwaukee is hit to the back post, defender Jim Curtin, on loan from the Chicago Fire, heads the ball towards goal. Defender Paul Lekics blocks the initial header, however the ball comes back to Curtin and he blasts it past the Richmond defense from 6 yards out.

70th Minute: Kwaku receives a great pass on the right flank and cuts inside across the top of the box. Mike Burke makes a darting run into the box and Kwaku plays it perfectly to his feet. Burke takes a controlling touch and fires a shot from 12 yards out. Goalkeeper Dan Popik makes the save of the game, a tremendous kick save.

90th Minute (GOAL): Pete Luzak makes a dashing run into the box and is taken down by a Milwaukee defender. Josh Henderson takes the penalty kick and drills it off of the upper right post to even the score.

93rd Minute (OT) (GOAL): A Milwaukee midfielder has the ball on the right flank and serves a pass inside the penalty area. The Richmond defense misplays the clearance and it lands optimistically for Milwaukee defender Alen Soso, who places a shot in the lower right hand corner from 14 yards out to win the game and the series for Milwaukee.
