GREENVILLE-The Charleston Battery overpowered the Green-ville Lions, 3-0, on Wednesday night in U.S. Open Cup action and earned the right to take on the Colorado Rapids.
The Battery will host the Rapids of Major League Soccer on July 17 at 7:30 p.m. at Blackbaud Stadium.
The game was scoreless until the second half when Charleston scored three quick goals. The first came at the 58th minute by Steve Klein. John Johns added a goal and then Raol Diaz Arce put in the third at the 68th minute.
In his first start this year, keeper Todd Hoffard recorded the shutout for the Battery.
The Rapids are coached by former Battery coach Tim Hankinson.
