A-League teams sweep matches in second round

For the first time in modern U.S. Open Cup history, the final 16 teams of the tournament will consist solely of A-League and Major League Soccer clubs following an eight-game sweep by the A-League in the second round.

The Charleston Battery advanced past the D3 Greenville Lions, 3-0.

• The Battery (12-1-1, 53 points), in first place in the A-League, seeks its 10th straight win today in a 7:30 p.m. match at Montreal (5-2-2, 23 points).

The Northeast Division Impact is unbeaten in its last seven matches, 5-0-2, and is 4-0 at its Claude Robillard Stadium home. Montreal played the Toronto Lynx to a 0-0 tie Thursday night in Toronto.
