RICHMOND, VA.-Midfielder John Jones scored the game-winning goal in the 77th minute to lead the Charleston Battery to a 1-0 victory over the Richmond Kickers in an A-League soccer matchup at the University of Richmond Wednesday.

Jones' goal, his third on the season, came assisted by defender Mark Watson after receiving a free kick off of the leg of midfielder Matt Farris.

The Battery (18-6-3, 85 points) clinched the top seed in the Eastern Conference for the upcoming postseason, will play its regular season finale Saturday against the Hampton Roads Mariners (6-3-18, 29 points) at Blackbaud Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
