Saturday June 19th, the Atlanta Silverbacks will be taking on the revamped Puerto Rico Islanders at Dekalb Memorial Stadium at 6:00 p.m. The Islanders are coming off their first win of the season, with a 1-0 shutout of the defending A-League champs, Charlston Battery. Puerto Rico is led on the field by the El Salvadorian star Raul Diaz Arce and is led from the sidelines by coach Hugo Maradona, brother of soccer legend, Diego Maradona.
The first ever meeting between these two squads will take place on 'Noche Latina' night, as a Latin based theme will be running throughout the game. In attendance will be a mariachi band gracing the stands as well as piñatas located around the stadium and Latin food available at the concession stand.
The Silverbacks are coming off of their sixth straight win, and are now tied for second place in the Eastern Conference. Still, Silverbacks Head Coach, David Vaudreuil, knows that Friday's game will not be an easy one and is leaving nothing for chance. "Puerto Rico is coming off their first win of the year against the defending champs Charleston," Vaudreuil commented, "They have a new coach, new players, and we are not really sure what to expect. You can pretty much toss any scouting report out the window. This is definitely a squad we are not looking past by any means."
