Silverbacks Women increase tally to 7 former WUSA players
The Atlanta Silverbacks Women announced today the expansion of their roster, which now includes seven former WUSA players for their inaugural 2005 season W-League roster. The signees include forward Kerry Gragg, midfielders Lisa Kryzkowski-Cantrell, Leslie Gaston, Nel Fettig, Marci Miller, Tara Minnax and keeper Melanie Wilson. Together the seven players have twenty-three total years of WUSA experience, all seven earned All-American Honors, four have national team experience and five were college conference players of the year.
With these initial signings, the Silverbacks Women are looking to come out strong and compete for the Atlantic Division Championship. "We are all thrilled about the talent we will have on this team. With 7 former WUSA players, I think we will have a competitive, tough and hungry team dedicated to winning a championship" said Marci Miller, former U20 National Team and 2001-2004 member of the Atlanta Beat.
Many of the players have been looking for the opportunity to play at a top level again and were extremely excited about the launching of the Atlanta Silverbacks Women.
“I am excited about playing in Atlanta, primarily because of the unbelievable support and fan base in and throughout the Metropolitan area. It is not like any other city I have played in before,” commented former Beat standout, Tara Minnax. “It is amazing to have the opportunity to play at the top level again.”
The Silverbacks are looking forward to their inaugural season where they will feature six double-headers with the Silverbacks Men. Laura Fedrigo, Executive Director of the Atlanta Silverbacks Women noted, “The Silverbacks are proud to bring women's soccer back to the city of Atlanta and we are very excited about offering fans of the game an entire evening of soccer. One of our goals is to offer an affordable, fun and entertaining evening that the whole family can enjoy."
