Harrisburg's Bennett called to play for Jamaica

Dynamic forward will face England’s World Cup Team on June 3

(Harrisburg, PA, May 11, 2006) – Harrisburg City Islanders forward Teofore Bennett has been invited to return to Jamaica on May 23 and travel with the Jamaican Men’s National Team to England on May 24. The “Reggae Boyz” are scheduled to play a friendly against England’s World Cup Team on Saturday, June 3. He is expected to return to Harrisburg on June 6.

“The City Islanders are extremely happy for Teofore,” said City Islanders Head Coach Bill Becher. “In his brief time with us, he’s already shown how exciting and talented a player he is. Facing one of the world’s best teams will be a great test for him. We have no doubt he’ll show well in England.”

“This is a great opportunity for others to step up in his absence,” Becher added.

Bennett, 25, has been a regular for the National Team over the past several years. In a friendly against the United States on April 17, he scored in just the fourth minute of the match. He scored his first regular season goal as a City Islander on May 5 in Pittsburgh, and accounted for the team’s lone goal in a 2-1 exhibition loss to D.C. United this past Tuesday.

The Harrisburg City Islanders enjoyed a superb second season in 2005, posting a 12-3-5 record underscored by a 15-game unbeaten streak. The campaign included a second straight playoff appearance, two major postseason awards (Rookie of the Year, Chad Severs; Coach of the Year, Bill Becher), and four All-League selections (Shane Crawford and Sumed Ibrahim, First Team; Severs and David Schofield, Second Team). The City Islanders also received the Second Division’s “Organization of the Year” award.

Season, group, and single game tickets are on sale now. Ticket prices have remained the same for the third straight season and begin at just $5 for youth general admission. In addition, the club has added a Bring Your Own Chair (“BYOC”) option for 2006. Tickets are available by calling 717-441-GOAL or online at www.cityislanders.com.
