Eagles/Lady Eagles Prepare For Crucial Matchups This Saturday

The Charlotte Eagles Pro Soccer team and Lady Eagles W-League team face a home doubleheader this Saturday, July 22nd that will have major playoff implications for both teams.

The Lady Eagles will face off against the Central Florida Krush at 5:30pm at Waddell Stadium. The game carries major playoff implications as a win or tie will advance Charlotte into the W-League Central Conference Finals hosted by Charlotte at Waddell Stadium on July 28th and 29th. A loss will mean missing the playoffs for the first time in the Lady Eagles 7 year history. The team is coming off a tough 1-0 loss to Hampton Roads where the Lady Eagles out-shot the Piranhas 21-4, but could not find the back of the net. The Lady Eagles will try to get back to their winning ways this Saturday as they continue to play well despite the loss of central midfielder Lulu Quigley, who suffered a season ending knee injury last month. Tickets for the W-League Central Conference Championship on July 28th and 29th can be purchased at the game this Saturday.

The Eagles Pro team will first travel to Pittsburg this Thursday to take on the 4th place Riverhounds. They will then come home Saturday to face the Wilmington Hammerheads at 8pm following the Lady Eagles game. Proving to be one of the greatest USL rivalries, neither Charlotte nor Wilmington have yet to win at their rival’s home stadium since Charlotte returned to the 2nd Division in 2004. Charlotte is coming off a good 1-1 performance against the league-leading Richmond Kickers where Gregg Schroeder was the hero for Charlotte, netting in the rebound from a Chris Lemons shot that rang off the post. The Eagles currently sit in second place in the second division with 24 points.

Getting wins this week would give the Defending National Champions some breathing room in what has proved to be the most competitive division in years, where only 6 points separate 2nd and 7th place in the division. Although in 8th place, Wilmington is still in striking distance of one of the four playoff spots, and has proven they can play with the best after beating 1st place Richmond last week. Tickets are on sale now for this weekend’s doubleheader and can be purchased at www.CharlotteEagles.com. Remember you can save $2.00 when purchasing your tickets in advance before Midnight of the game.

2004 & 2005 MVP and Scoring Champion, Jacob Coggins is continuing to improve his fitness level after being out for 4 weeks with a broken foot. In his last two games, Coggins has come on as a substitute and has provided an immediate impact in both games.
