The Charlotte Lady Eagles are looking to prove to Central Florida on Saturday that history does not repeat itself when they take on the Krush at 5:30pm at Waddell Stadium.
Last year it was Central Florida who ousted the Lady Eagles in the Central Conference Final for the right to play in the W-League Final Four. This year, the stakes are just as high although this game is a regular season match. With a win or a tie, the Lady Eagles will advance to the Central Conference Finals next weekend hosted by Charlotte. Either of those results would also eliminate Central Florida from playoff contention. A loss for the Lady Eagles would mean missing playoffs for the first time in their 7 year history. For the Lady Eagles the pressure level could not be much higher, yet the team will be lead by seasoned veterans such as Tina Murphy, Christy Rife, and Ashley Swinehart. In addition to their veterans, the Lady Eagles have benefited from newcomers Darcel Mollon and Heidi Drummond. Mollon, a national team player for Trinidad and Tobago, has brought amazing speed to Charlotte’s offense, and Drummond, a former Penn State University standout has contributed well with her experience and size advantage.
No matter what the outcome, expect a close hard-fought game between these two unlikely rivals as they fight for their playoff lives at 5:30pm. To purchase tickets at the advanced discount, go to www.CharlotteEagles.com before 12am Saturday.
In USL-2 Pro Soccer action, the Charlotte Eagles will fly into Falconi Field in Pittsburgh, PA to take on the 4th place Riverhounds at 7:05pm tonight. The result is an important one for both teams as the race for playoff spots begins. A win for Charlotte will help create some breathing room in a very tight division where only 6 points separate the 2nd place Eagles from 7th place. The last meeting between the two teams was on June 24th in Charlotte where the Eagles won 1-0 on a Dustin Swinehart header.
No matter what the result is tonight, the Eagles will not have much time to recover as they travel back home to Waddell Stadium to face inter-state rival, Wilmington on Saturday, July 22nd. That game will kick-off at 8pm following the Lady Eagles match at 5:30. Tickets can be purchased at www.CharlotteEagles.com.
