Although their winning streak was broken at two, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds maintained their unbeaten streak at four, after they tied Harrisburg, 3-3, in front of 1,025 at Chartiers Valley H.S. Stadium, on Saturday evening. In doing so, they earned a point which ties them with Bermuda(14 points), who lost in Cleveland.
The Hounds, in white with Blue and black trim, took the lead in just the 7th minute when captain Nathan Salsi deflected a cross from Thabiso 'Boyzzz' Khumalo past City Islander goalkeeper Danny Cepelo.
But the Central Pa. rivals tied it in the 22nd minute when David Schofield scored an unassisted goal, beating Zach Varga, from about 10 yards.
However, the Hounds took the lead back in the 33rd when Jean Robens Jerome launched a rocket past Cepero, off an assist from Jason Kutney.
In the second half, the City Islanders, in light Blue tops and dark Blue shorts, tied it again when Brett Weisner beat Varga, lobbing a shot over the former Duke and into the twine inside the right post from about 10 yards on the near side.
But the Hounds struck again in the 59th when Khumalo and Jerome teamed on a break, before the former Charleston Battery deflected a cross from Jerome, beating Cepero with a shot inside the left post. It was the first time, this season, that the Hounds scored three times in a game.
Though, the City Islanders came back again in the 77th on a goal by Brian Ombiji who beat Varga with a shot into the back of the cage.
The Hounds had another chance in stoppage time, when Khumalo found himself on a break along the near side, but his shot missed wide of the left post.
A win would have put the Hounds in 7th place. Charlotte comes to visit on Friday(7:05) for the first of three games left in the regular season.
