The Pittsburgh Riverhounds return to United Soccer League Second Division loop play Thursday night when they host the Bermuda Hogges at Chartiers Valley Stadium. Kickoff time is 7:05 p.m. Thursday's game is a celebration of the end of the school year and fans are encouraged to wear their blue and white on "School's Out Night". This marks the first meeting between the two sides in 2009. Next month, the Riverhounds will play back to back games against the Hogges in the island nation.
Sunday, the Hounds host the Richmond Kickers in a 7:05 p.m. kickoff at Char Valley. Sunday's night's contest will also serve as a salute to our area's police officers. A moment of silence will be held for Pittsburgh's three fallen police heroes, Eric Kelly, Paul Sciullo, and Stephen Mayhle, who lost their lives in the line of duty in April. The Pittsburgh Police Color Guard will attend the match. The game marks the second meeting between Pittsburgh and Richmond this season. The Hounds and Kickers finished that first match in a 1-1 draw in Virginia.
Tickets for both games are still on sale at www.riverhounds.com, by phone at 412-539-1191, and at the gate.
Pittsburgh was eliminated Tuesday from the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Tournament in a controversial 1-1 draw that went to penalty kicks after 90 minutes of regulation and two 15 minute overtime periods. The Rochester Rhinos topped Pittsburgh 4-2 in PK's to advance to a second round meeting with the Cleveland City Stars.
The Hounds are 2-3-2 (8-points) and in the basement of USL-2. Even so, Pittsburgh has played fewer matches than any other team in the Division. Bermuda, which has logged 9 games to date, is 3-5-1 (10-points) and in 8th place is USL-2.
